I'm Back....

So sorry for dropping off the map for a week. I didn't mean for that to happen, but life just got in the way.

This will catch you up on our lives this past week and we can start fresh today:

* Cleaning. Cooking. Shopping. Laundry.

* Mer and Grandpa and Sally and Ed (their travel companions) arrived on Wednesday morning. Chip skipped school to greet them.

* Sally was allergic to cats, so she and Ed had to get a hotel. Felt so bad.

* In less than 24 hours Bob fixed a toilet. Mer built a weedeater. We ate. We laughed. The Championship Basketball game went to Hubby and Harry. Bob might have pulled something. Mer was dizzy.

* End of year party. Finals. Three hour teleconferences. Laundry. Laundry. Cleaning. Cooking. Laundry. Cleaning.

* Callie, Megan and Patrick arrived on Thursday evening.

* Shopping. Finals. Eating. Laughing. Late to pick up Chip on his last day of school. Not laughing. Worst mother of the year.

* Now the proud parent of a sophomore and a fourth grader! YIKES!

* Harry jumped into a pool with his new phone. Son of a .....

* Freebirds. Bat Watching.

* Bike Riding. Carlos and Charlies. Shopping. Touring.

* San Antonio. Magic Time Machine. The Marketplace. Quick Tour. Chuys.

* Hiking and Bull Creek. Threadgills. Shopping. Shopping. Eating.

It has been a busy couple of days, but this morning our company is gone. We had a wonderful visit and too many hard, side splitting laughs to count. I just love our family.

I am back to my exercise routine this morning...and we did our run even though it was hot and humid. So sweaty. Gross. So necessary. Did you see all the eating out we have been doing? Need to exercise morning and night.

So ahh...it is Tuesday morning. Boys are snoozing. Hubby is heading back to work. After the big summer kickoff weekend we will now try to settle into what our normal summer routine is going to look like. I have a whole new video game policy we are going to implement. The boys will be thrilled I am sure.

Welcome summer. It is so nice to see you!

Shampoo Warning

My friend Mary sent me this email earlier this week. It made me laugh then and it is making me laugh now. Here it is for you:

Shampoo Warning!

As I was conditioning my hair in the shower this morning, I took time to read my shampoo bottle. I am in shock! The shampoo I use in the shower that runs
down my entire body says "for extra volume and body"! Seriously, why have I
not noticed this before? Now I understand why I am so "full-figured"!

Tomorrow I am going to start using "Dawn" dish soap. It says right on the
label "dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove."

It pays to read the warning labels, my friends!

Celebrating Chip

Yesterday, our little Chipster turned nine years old. Let's take a little walk down memory lane with pictures. It is important to note that in the first picture in this virtual scrapbook Chip was five months old. This was the first picture we took of him not screaming his head off. He was a colicky little fellow and spent the first year of his life screaming like his hand was stuck in a car door. He was also quite barfy, sweaty and stiff. Otherwise, he was lovely.

He's cute, he's cool, he's a music lover, he's a dancer, he's an early riser, he's an awesome reader, he's a cuddle bunny (but still kinda sweaty), loves a bowl of rice, a hot bath, chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven with a cold cup of milk, he falls asleep faster than any other human on earth, he has a mean fade away basketball shot, he can knock the cover off of a baseball and stretch at first to catch a ball like a pro, he has a bit of an attitude sometimes but thankfully it is usually contained within the four walls of our home, he loves his family, especially his brother Harry, he's a fan of the WWE, he has the sweetest smile and the kindest eyes, he is gentle but tough, he is funny, he is charming, he is so wonderful that I am just beaming as I write this.

This kid started off as a challenging baby. I mean really challenging. Like at his three month appointment I said to the doctor "We are going to need a full body x-ray on this one. He is missing an organ, has a broken bone, something is WAAAYYYY wrong. He never stops crying and is so unhappy." The doctor smiled and said "It's colic. It's horrible. He won't remember a thing. Can I give you something to help you get through it?" I was apparently so desperate the doctor was offering me sedatives or something. I didn't take them. But I kept the doctor's number on speed dial on my cell phone and carried it around with me everywhere.

We survived. It was not easy. The doctor was right. Chip has no recollection of his difficult beginning. I still can't look at baby pictures of him without having heart palpitations. It was extreme.

And now, he definitely keeps me on my toes but now it is because he is extreme bowling in the garage with weights or chopping up some piece of wood in the front yard with an ax or taking my good containers out to catch lizards or asking me to turn on the radio within 1.5 seconds of starting the car. Every single time we get in. No exceptions. Doesn't matter if I am in the middle of a sentence, talking to someone else, on the phone, telling him where we are going or what we are doing. Doesn't matter. Can you turn on 20 on 20s?

Would I trade him for ALL the money in the world? No way.
Would I trade him for ALL the money and ALL the gold in the world? Not for a second.
Would I trade him for a skinny body that could eat all the carbs it wanted without ever gaining a pound? Never.

In fact, there is nothing on earth I would trade him for. You see, my Chip is a keeper. He is going to do exciting stuff, because he is just hard headed enough to do whatever he sets his mind too. The possibilities are endless and the world is his playground.

I am just so proud to be his mom. It's not the easiest job in the world, but it IS the absolute best job in the world.

I love you Chip. You amaze me. You make me so proud. I hope your birthday was everything you wanted and more. I am so excited to watch you become a young man. You fill my heart with love and I hope you know how blessed I feel to be your mom. I'm the lucky one.

Love you to the moon and back!

Heading into the Weekend

I have a lot on my mind today, so I am just going to ramble. It is what I do.

Work is busy. Lots of phone calls, emails, reading of Government documents. Good times. They want to have a teleconference tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. Tomorrow is Saturday, people. They don't care.

Harry turned in his last project today. Final exams are next week. He gets to exempt 4 of his 8! Way to go Harry! One more week of school!

I took a big cookie up to Chip's class to celebrate his birthday. Someone else's mom brought donuts. Can you say "sugar overload?" He got to stand on his desk as they serenaded him with the "Happy Birthday" song. He had his hands up in the air swaying like he was in a concert. Crazy kid.

Harry brought home some of his writing assignments he had worked on throughout his freshman year. His homework assignment was to have his parents review and comment on five things he had written. Of course, I had to hear of this homework assignment from my walking buddy Martha at 5:45 this morning. So I was thrilled to remind Harry at 7:45this morning. I had about 20 minutes to look through his things but what I read was awesome. His teacher was just outstanding this year. You could tell that he read every single word that the kids wrote on their assignments. There were stars, happy faces, comments, cheers, jeers left by his teacher on his work. I really wish every kid could have a year with Mr. Chalk. He is awesome.

My boys have gone to a ballgame tonight. I am heading to Book Club in a bit. Can't wait for a glass of wine. Seriously. Maybe more than one. Next month is my month to pick. I hate picking. I love reading. But I hate picking. Too much pressure to pick a good book. I think I am going with "Cutting for Stone" unless too many of them have already read it. Fingers crossed that it is a good book!

Bob and Lana have left Vegas and were snarled in a traffic jam when I spoke to them this afternoon. They are heading into Phoenix tonight. They will be here on Wednesday! I can't wait. Would it be rude to have a toilet valve replacement kit in their "Welcome" basket? I need help with my downstairs toilet! Badly.

That is all I have. Must get to Target to finish up Chip's birthday shopping!

Closing ceremonies for baseball tomorrow, followed by the Player's Choice game, pick up birthday cake at the bakery and work. Birthday party for Chip on Sunday afternoon and work. Not too bad!

Hope your weekend is beautiful and you have a glass of wine in your immediate future!!

My little pumpkin got an EEG Tuesday. This EEG was done to see if he had outgrown his Benign Rolandic Epilepsy and could get off the medicine he has been on for a couple of years. The medicine he takes is called Keppra and it prevents him from having seizures. We need to be sure his brainwaves are behaving nicely before we take him off the Keppra. I never want to re-live the night of his one and only seizure ever again.

Scary stuff.

Anyway, on Tuesday I took my camera to the appointment. Chip kept asking what it looked like with all the wires attached to his head and I thought I could snap a picture and show him real quick. He liked that idea.

So come along and see what it looks like to get an EEG!

Here is the box with all the wires. Aren't I very technical?

Measure the head of the patient. That makes him laugh.

Start looking for some scalp under all that hair.

Attach 24 different colored wires on different areas of the brain.

Look at the back of his head.

First step is to close your eyes then open them. Second step is to take deep breaths for 3 minutes.

Then stare into a strobe light while it flashes at alternating speeds, trying to throw you into a seizure.

After that, please take a nap! Seriously, take a nap for about 20 minutes.

I won't even tell you about Chip's Dad falling asleep next to the bed, while Chip was trying to fall asleep. He did that big herky jerky thing that you do when you are just falling asleep and you step off a curb or something. Scared me and the EEG technician to death. I think he might have even been drooling.

Anyway, waiting to hear from the doctor to see what the results were. Keeping fingers crossed that he can get off the Keppra. But if he has to take it for another year or so that will be fine too!

Just no more seizures, please!

I took a few minutes this morning to look a little more closely at Blogger. Turns out there are some stats about your individual blog that you can review. It was very interesting.

For instance...what do you think is the #1 visited blog I have ever written? Answer: The one about fundraising in front of Wal-mart with the little pink ducks. I have had 100 hits on that post. I assume it is people looking to raise money for the 3Day Walk. I hope it was helpful to them. You can read it here.

Which blog do you think is #2? Would you believe it is the one about my children hating fruit? It is. That one has been hit 74 times. I even have had a couple of anonymous folks leave comments asking for tips/suggestions on getting their kids to eat fruit. It was kinda meant to be funny but I think it might be a real problem. You can refresh your memory here if you missed it. Send helpful hints if you have them. I got nothing.

So, #3? What do you think? It's the Underwear Wrestling one. I mean that one was funny, but are people really searching for underwear wrestling and ending up here. I feel pretty certain they were disappointed with their search engine.

The other stat you can look at is money. You remember several months ago (like four or five months ago) that I left Hubs alone with my blog and its password for about two seconds. In that two seconds he figured out how I could upload pictures faster and easier and added Google ads. Just a small little ad in the corner of my home page. I had no idea how the ad thing worked, but I was ready to just let the money roll in! Maybe I could retire and do this blogging thing full time. Guess how much I have earned in five months? $15.29. Can I retire on $3.52 a month? I don't think so. Dang it!

So a little behind the scenes action for today! It was fun for me! Learning something new all the time!

I am working on another blog that I hope to get posted today! So check back if you are feeling froggy!

Have an awesome Wednesday!

Chip and Rey - Thrill of a Lifetime

Chip's birthday is in a few short days. He is going to be nine. I can't stand it.

As part of his birthday celebration he got tickets to see the "WWE: Smackdown Live Tour". That is a wrestling event people. Keep up.

He was thrilled. Rey Mysterio, his all time favorite wrestler, is in Smackdown. He was so excited that he was going to actually get to see Rey!

Oh wait, there was one small glitch. The WWE had their draft a couple of weeks ago and Rey got traded to Raw. Raw is the other WWE division.

Did you not know that the WWE had two divisions? You didn't know that the WWE had a draft? Seriously, come out of your cave. Of course they do. And, you didn't know that they just trade all the existing wrestler's back and forth between Smackdown and Raw? Goodness gracious, how do you get dressed by yourself in the morning? This is common information. You should really be hip to these things. All the cool people know all about this stuff.

Okay, we have already established that I am not cool. So, the gig is up and I join you in WWE ignorance. Why have a draft when you don't have any new players? It doesn't matter and we really shouldn't spend another moment discussing it.

This draft information is only important for one reason and one reason only.

It is a week before Chip is scheduled to see his all time favorite wrestler in Smackdown, and they traded him to Raw. Chip was disappointed. He was sad. He knew he would still like the Smackdown show, but was so looking forward to seeing Rey in person and now that was just a pipe dream.

OR WAS IT?????

Sunday afternoon arrived, the show started with some big free for all fight with eight or ten wrestlers. It was chaotic.

The next event they announce is going to be a rematch from Wrestlemania. They annouce the first contender and it is Cody Rhodes. The place went crazy. Cause they all knew that Cody Rhodes fought Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania. Rey was there. Rey was in the HOUSE! He was fighting Cody Rhodes AGAIN.

These two have had an intense battle going on since Rey accidently broke Cody's face, causing him to wear this unsightly plastic face guard for the rest of his life. It has scarred Cody for life and he has been wanting revenge since it happened. They have fought approximately 38 times since the incident. I don't even know who is getting revenge on who anymore.

Refocus please...that history is neither here nor there. The big, exciting news is that Rey was there.

Did I mention that Chip was in the fourth row? Fourth row. Wrestler sweat was flying all over them.

Hello fourth row. You guys are close. Big brother so sweet to go and act excited with his little brother. I assume there was some bartering that if Harry went to this and behaved that Chip would have to stay for the ENTIRE MLB All-Star game in July.

Chip got an "OFFICIAL" Rey mask of his own. The little kid one from the toy department that he got at Christmas wouldn't even fit on his big skull. This one fit. It was also 8 times more expensive than the toy version. Highway robbery. He slept in it Sunday night.

So Rey comes out. Does he pre-game, pre-match, ritual of showing everyone his stomach, tattoos and muscles.

Then Cody Rhodes starts kicking Rey's butt all over that ring.

I mean he was wearing Rey out inside and outside the ring.

That is a good thing though. At least in wrestling, the guy who usually gets his butt kicked at first usually wins. This is good news for Rey, cause he is getting killed.

What is this move? Okay Rey it is time to make your move.

HERE IT COMES!! THE 6 - 1 - 9!

This is Rey's signature move. I think it is his area code or something.

He smashes Cody Rhodes in the face AGAIN!!! Good thing he had his plastic mask on.

Not sure what is happening in this picture but it is not good for Cody.

Match over - Rey wins! Rey Wins! Rey Wins!

Rey is always the underdog. Chip saw him win a match!!

Then Rey comes down and starts shaking hands. Chip puts on his new mask and pushes toward the front.

Right here, in this picture, Rey has Chip's hand. They are touching. He went back a few steps to high five another kid and came back again and Chip high fived him AGAIN!

It was thrilling for Chip.

I was thrilled for Chip!

Good start to this birthday celebration!
