Sixty-Five

Big news!

SIXTY-FIVE!
65!

I have lost 65 pounds!  Go me!

So very happy about that!

In other news around the house!

Hubby has gone to the beach for his annual boys trip.  He said the flight was so turbulent that the stewardess fell down in the aisle.  Oh, no thank you!  I would have barfed or screamed or BOTH for sure.  They do some kind of random drawing for sleeping arrangements and this year Hubby got the couch.  I think they have been going for 20 something years and I am not sure he has ever gotten the couch, so it was probably overdue.  I am sure he will have a great time regardless of where he sleeps.

Me and the boys volunteered at Back To School Night for the elementary school handing out school supplies.  They both worked hard and I was so proud of them!   I had a little bra strap mishap that I asked Harry to assist me with while we were there and you would have thought I asked him to dance naked in front of the school while juggling flaming bowling balls.  It was good for some laughs.

The boys had a little sleepover to wrap up summer.  They had to help me clean the house to get ready for it.  It is a win-win.

In addition to my brain clicking and ear hurting I have random rashes popping up on my skin.  Behind my right knee, front of left knee, on my left hip, right thumb......WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?

We are heading out today to buy some last minute school supplies!  School starts on Monday!

Have a great weekend!

Rocky Start

My morning so far....

1.  Every step I took on my walk I had a clicking noise inside my head.  In the way back.  Inside my head.  Just click, click, click, click.  Every step.  For those of you who know me well, you know that repeat noises are a major problem for me.  I go kinda sorta nuts with repeat noises of any kind.  Its a problem when it is inside my own head and I can't figure out how to stop it.  What the heck?

2.  I have a sharp pain in my right ear.  Like really sharp.  Like, my hand wants to fly up and cover it when the pain happens.  It is not all the time, just random intervals.  A 46 year old with an ear infection?  My TMJ acting up?

Are these two related?????

3.  I came home and made a protein shake, didn't screw the lid on my shaker and proceeded to pour it all over myself and the kitchen counter when I took my first sip.  Bummer.  Messy Bummer.

4.  Then, I sat down on the couch and spilled my coffee all over the place.

AM I HAVING A STROKE OR WHAT??????

I am scared of how the rest of my day is going to progress!

Top Ten "Catch Up" Tidbits

Hello Blog World!  Thank you Liz for checking on me to see if in fact I had fallen off the face of the earth.

I have not.

But I have been a busy girl and blogging has taken a back seat!  Let's turn this thing around and see if we can't do a little Top Ten Catch Up Tidbits speed round to get you caught up on the goings on around here!

1.  Hubby had a birthday!  I had pulled together a bunch of pictures of him and was going to do a Birthday post to celebrate all that is wonderful about him, but nine days late just seems anti-climatic.  Let me just post one of my favorite photos of my favorite fella doing his favorite thing....making our boys laugh
.

I won't even guess what transpired to bring out this kind of laughter.

2.  I flew to Bama for a quick work trip.  Quick was the main word in that sentence.  I found out on Monday afternoon that they would like me to come into the office and on Wednesday morning I was on a plane headed that way. It was a great trip for being thrown together so quickly. Got lots done, but yowser there is a laundry list a mile long of all that needs to be done.

3.  As is normal, I stay with my parents when I am in Bama for work.  This time however my Mom was on a thirty day cross country adventure seeing all kinds of fabulous parts of our fine United States.  So that means it was just me and my Dad.  That never happens.  Me and Bob had a great visit.  We walked in the morning, had dinner at night and just yacked and visited till the wee hours of the morning.  I did also get to see Callie and George and Judy and Mack, but Bob and I both really enjoyed our one on one time.

4.  I was able to fit into some new and fabulous clothes for my business trip. Some that my girl Connie had given me and one little lovely dress that I bought the day before I left.  When I tried on the size dress I thought I wore, the sales lady said "That is way too big, you need a smaller size."  I got all teary eyed in the dressing room. It was a great moment!  Here is a picture of my Casual Friday wear!

5.  Back to School night is just around the corner.  Chip is supposed to get a call from his teacher tomorrow and then we are heading up to school tomorrow night to pick up school supplies.  I love summer, but I am ready for a schedule.  I love me some routine!

6.  I am up to walking 6 miles a day and we are kicking it with a nice 15 minute per mile pace.  That is fast!

7.  Speaking of fast...Harry has been doing cross country practice in the mornings.  His first day he ran a 5K in 24:39 and just about six days later they timed them again and he ran it in 21:09.  Already a huge improvement over his times from last year.  Way to go Hars!  First meet is August 31st.  I can't wait!

8.  Baseball is cranking back up for Chip!  Last night was their first semi-practice and it turned into a nice long dinner on the patio of a restaurant with some of our baseball families.  We laughed so hard.  Remind me to tell you about the 95 year old Japanese Ninja that BJ met.  Hysterical!

9.  I finished my 14 days of eating the same thing.  It was awful.  I finally stopped being hungry and grouchy, but I never did lose any weight. Mr. Knowledge said that was great!  What?  Something about regulating my insulin and getting the little PacMan cells built back up to do their job, and losing a little muscle mass so I can get smaller....I don't know it was a lot to comprehend.  Here is the good news though.  Even though I didn't lose weight, I feel certain I have lost some inches.  Everything is looser and for me that is just enough!  I am still super motivated and really think I am going to have another big drop in a day or two.  Still eating clean and making great choices.  I am hovering at about a 61 pound weight loss.

10.  Lots of kids I know are heading to college for the first time!  Good luck to Wes, Kyle, Jordan, and Emily!  I hope you have the time of your life....but remember to call your mothers!!

That is all I have for now!  Heading to Book Club!  Have a terrific day!

Protein Packed Waffles

I have a new recipe for you to try!  I am trying to find a breakfast item I can send to school with Harry for him to eat between cross country practice and the school day starting.  I want it to have a nice protein punch to help his muscles recover and repair.  We tried just a regular protein shake last week, but he hated it. So, today I tried a new recipe I found on the Internet for waffles made with protein powder.  Here is the recipe:

Protein Packed Waffles

1 cup old fashioned oatmeal
1 cup lowfat cottage cheese
1 and 1/2 cups egg whites (8 egg whites)
2 scoops Vanilla Protein Powder
4 packets Stevia sweetener
1 tsp Baking Powder

Mix all ingredients in a blender or Bullet.  Let batter sit and thicken for about 5 minutes.  Heat waffle iron.  Spray waffle iron with PAM.  Do it between each waffle because they tend to stick without any added fat!  Cook until golden brown (about 5 minutes).  Inhale the yummy aroma filling your kitchen.  Smile.  Eat.  Enjoy.  Feel good.  Inside and out!

Each batch made about six waffles.

Breaking down the numbers for an individual waffle.

Calories 163;  Protein  21;  Fat 2;  Carbs 13

The boys ate them.  Harry is on the fence because he likes to be difficult, but he said they were edible.  I will take that as high praise from Mr. Picky Pants.  Hubby and Chip were all over them!  They ate them dry - no butter, no syrup!  I tasted a piece and thought they were terrific!  I think I could do with about half the sweetener because they were very sweet to me, but I hate to change something the boys devoured.  If I don't add the sweetener they will probably cover them with syrup...so I will leave it as is!  I actually made a second batch to put in the freezer for weekday mornings!  Should be yummy after running them through the toaster for a few minutes!

Try them!  I don't think you will be disappointed!

14 Day Eating Plan

Lots of my loyal readers have asked "What exactly are you eating on this 14 Day diet plan that Mr. Knowledge About the Human Body has you on?"

I use the word "Lots" very, very loosely.

Honestly, only my Aunt Gail and the lady across the street have asked.

Regardless, I aim to please everyone.

I will tell you that I went in for my session with Mr. Knowledge yesterday, after four total days eating on this plan and said "I am up a pound and a half...HELP...I feel grouchy and hungry...what is happening?"

He said "This is great.  You are regulating your insulin.  You might gain a little weight, but please remember that this is about getting healthy, not about getting skinny.  Keep it up.  Your organs are loving you right now.  If you are hungry, increase your portions a bit until you aren't hungry but keep eating the same things.  Being grouchy we can live with."

So here it is:

6:00 a.m.     Protein  Shake
8:30 a.m.     4 Egg Whites; Spinach/Mushrooms/Onions; One slice Ezekiel Bread
11:00 a.m.   Grapefruit or an Apple (add some Peanut Butter if super hungry)
12:15 p.m.   Chicken or Tuna Salad made with tons of veggies (cucumber/celery/onion/green pepper/sugar free relish) and a little Smart Balance Mayo; 2 Kim's Magic Pops
3:00 p.m.     Protein Shake
5:30 p.m.     4 - 6 oz White Fish (Tilapia) ; 1 cup of a veggie
8:00 p.m.     Zone Bar

That is it!

Since I am not losing pounds right now I desperately want to believe that I am losing inches.  I tried on a closet full of clothes today in the next size down and they ALL fit!  I am just so thrilled!  Thank you Connie for all the wonderful clothes that have been my inspiration to get into!  Down 60+ pounds and feeling like a million bucks!

Hope your weekend is awesome!

Fun Photo Tool

Me and Chip have been playing around with a new photo tool in Picasa!  It is called Creative Kit and it is so fun!  Here are a couple of before and afters!

It should not be this fun to edit old pictures, but we have loved it!  Yesterday, I told Chip for the 187th time that he was not old enough for "M" video games.  He pulled up a picture of me and added about five boxing gloves...giving me a left hook, a right upper cut, a right jab, left jab a complete combination right to the face.  It helped him express his feelings in a nice and creative manner.  We both laughed.

Hope you are doing something fun and creative today!

Weekend Wrap-Up

It is Sunday afternoon and I can hardly believe it is time to face Monday AGAIN!  How does it keep coming around so quickly!

Our weekend has been great!  Got Hubby home from his whirlwind trip circling the globe.  I mean, he literally circled the globe in the span of eight days.  He left Texas and headed east to London, then further east to India.  A few days later, he left India and headed east to Singapore and on to Malaysia.  Then a few days later he returned home going through Hong Kong, Los Angeles and finally landing safely back in Texas.  He left last Friday and got home on Saturday evening.  Lots of miles in such a few short days.... but lots of interesting stories.

In India, he was presented with a traditional turban and shawl that he had to put on in front of a crowd of people.  He gave us a little show when he got home and let me tell you, it takes someone pretty awesome to pull off a turban.  Not a great look.  Got some good laughs out of that one!  He took on a country full of curry this and curry that and managed to survive.  He is not the world's most adventurous eater, in fact he is probably one of the most boring eaters in the world.  Always a culinary challenge for him to travel internationally.  He was fortified with some Special K breakfast bars, PopTarts and Fig Newtons from home.  He survived but he is tired.  Just put on a fresh pot of coffee at 6:30 p.m. so he can hopefully stay up till 10:00 and get back on a schedule!

Also this weekend, we squeezed in some pool time, back to school shopping, a little birthday dining, and FINALLY got to see the new Batman movie.  It was intense.  That bad guy was really bad.

Harry starts Cross Country practice tomorrow at 7:00 a.m.  I hope he is conditioned enough not to be miserable.  I think he is.  He is really maturing right in front of my eyes.  He still has flashes of his chaotic, random, funny little self...but definitely spending more time talking about his future and goals and responsibility.  It makes a momma proud.  And then we drove to the Outlet Mall yesterday and he had the emergency brake up in his truck the whole time.  That makes a momma wonder how he is ever going to survive out in the world.

Three short weeks of summer left before school kicks off again.  I can't hardly believe that Harry is starting his Junior year of high school and my little Chipster is starting 5th grade.  Last year of elementary school.  That is big time.

I am starting my 14 day eating plan tomorrow where I eat the same thing for fourteen days in a row.  I am ready.  I had my birthday lunch today, which was the most outstanding tasty and healthy Ruby Trout dish at Z Tejas.  Then, on Chad's recommendation, I had a bit of dessert.  I got a Birthday Cake Pop from Starbucks and I ate it all.  Well, Hubby had a small bite.  It was sweet and felt very celebratory!  It is the first thing I have eaten since February that was not on my plan.  I know I went overboard with the watermelon a while back, but it was an allowable food, just not in the quantities that I ate it.  Now I am locked in to clean eating all the way to Thanksgiving.  When maybe, just maybe I will have a small treat of Mom's mashed potatoes!

To keep my motivation, I tried on some of the awesome clothes that my friend Connie gave me that are another size smaller than I am wearing now.  Some of them fit!  The dresses and skirt fit now and the pants will fit in another couple five pounds or so!  I look at the clothes on a hanger and think...there is no way this is going to fit me....and then it does.  It is pretty exciting stuff!

That is all for the weekend wrap-up!  I hope that the week ahead is going to be super productive at work...I want to focus and really get some things marked off of my "TO DO" list!  I am also getting a haircut...YEA!!!   Can't wait to get this mop of hair back under control!

Hope your weekend was relaxing and that Monday treats you well!

Happy Birthday to Me.....

Today is my birthday.  Among my happy birthday wishes on Facebook, one of my friends said "What an investment you've made in yourself this year!"

What a perfect way to sum up my 45th year.   I HAVE invested in myself.

I have invested in my relationship with God, I have worked on my emotional health and I have most definitely improved my physical body and overall health and well being.  It has been a trifecta of spiritual, emotional and physical improvement and I have never felt better inside and out.  It has impacted every aspect of my life.  I feel like I am glowing!

So, Happy Birthday to me!  Bring on 46!  I can't wait to see what is in store for me!

Milestones and Limits

Yesterday, I hit a major milestone!  I have lost 60 pounds!  Woo Hoo!  You could not smack the smile off my face!  So excited, happy and blessed!
Although it is difficult to go back and look at "Before" pictures, I thought I would put up a "Before" and a "During" photo.  You see how I combined them on one picture.  I know you can still see the gray frame around them and that they aren't the same size but I honestly thought getting them side by side was nothing short of a miracle.  Sixty pounds gone.  I am still a work in progress, but I feel great about how far I have come.  Trying to enjoy the journey and celebrate as I watch the pounds come off.

Jumping to a completely different subject.  I know, that never happens around here, does it?

Yesterday, something happened that really made me question my parenting.  Is it good or is it really bad???

After sitting down to dinner with the boys the following conversation ensued:

Harry:   Mom, I have a proposition for you.  Chip you will want to pay attention to this.
Mom:    What's up?
Harry:   I think Chip and I are spending too much time playing video games and I suggest we get rid of one of our gaming systems and put a shared system at a neutral location like the guest room.
Chip:     WHAT???
Harry:   Chip, there is so much more to life than playing our video games and since we can't seem to police ourselves I think we should just take away a system and share one.
Chip:    Do you not remember how much we used to argue about who could play what?
Harry:  I do remember, but I think we are past that now.
Chip:   I am not sure.
Harry:  I am sure.  We need to get out.  Do things.  See things.  Stay in shape.  Play.

You can see at this point that I haven't said a thing except "What's Up?"  Then I jump in with this brilliance:

Mom:   I don't think you have to do anything extreme like get rid of a system, why don't you just agree to turn them off.   Like not play during the week, only on the weekends.
Harry:  Okay, I think that would be reasonable.
Chip:   Let's sign a contract.
Harry:  No, we don't need to sign a stupid contract.
Chip:   Contracts are not stupid.
Harry:  Fine.

Chip writes up their agreement on an index card and they both sign.

So I am sitting there as an innocent bystander as these two set some strict video game guidelines for themselves.   Good parenting/bad parenting debate starts in my head.

They must be playing way too many video games if in a matter of five minutes they can draw up a contract agreeing to limit their time so severely.  Bad parenting?

Recognizing there is so much more to life and doing something about it.  Good parenting?

Suggesting they keep the damn console that is the cause of the dissatisfaction.  Bad parenting?

Raising kids that can have a little debate, conversation AND draw up legally binding documents.  Good parenting?

Chip of course asked me first thing this morning if the contract was for the school year or also for the summer.  I just shrugged and said "I don't know, it was your contract."  He said "Can we change the contract to maybe play one hour a day?"  Don't ask me.

You can see that I am very involved in their upbringing!

Should be fun to see how this plays out!  They could spend as much time debating and revising their contract as they did playing video games!

Hope your Thursday is awesome!
