The Ups and Downs of Football

The Cougars played Monday night against Hernandez Middle School.  It was a beautiful afternoon at the Cougars home field!  There were cheerleaders and banners to run through!  Oh yeah!

Let's Go Cougars!

Everybody do that Cougar Rumble!

C - O - U - G - A - R - S!

Here they come!

There is my favorite Left Tackle #65!

Ms. Connie (my sweet friend and Chip's Preschool teacher) and her daughter Brittany (Drew's favorite ever babysitter and first crush) came to watch Chip's game!  So sweet!  He was tickled!

The Cougars return the kickoff for a touchdown!  Woo Hoo!  Great start!

They got the two point conversion and went up 8 - 0!

Didn't realize that is all the scoring that would happen for the whole game.  The Cougars starting QB went out and look at this little pumpkin who played QB.  Isn't he so cute??

Also, super cute is Chip's football buddy.  They have been friends for years and years!

Cute shirt!  Super cute young lady!

Cougars have several fine defensive stands and hold the other team to a goose egg on the scoreboard!  They were so happy to get a W!

Look  at that smile!  Chip said he has the best Football Buddy of anyone.  The first week she game him a cool sports necklace that was black and red.  Then this week she gave him a giant bag of gum and blow pops!  That is sweet!

After the game, Chip's left foot was killing him.  He was limping like an old man.  The pain was mostly in the heel of his foot.  Tuesday I sent a note to the coaches and asked if he could take it easy till we got the foot thing figured out and I called to get an appointment with a pediatric podiatrist.

This is a picture from today at the doctor's office.  Where is that smile, Chip?  The doctor gave him a thorough review and took an X-ray of his left foot.   Diagnosis is Sever's Disease...inflammation of the growth plate of the heel.  All the football workouts and working his calves so much have tightened up his Achilles and plantar tendons and caused them to aggravate the growth plate and it is really inflamed.

The doctor said he needs to do five things to make it better.

1.  Ice - Minimum of three times a day for 10 minutes each time.
2.  Advil - 3 times a day for 7 days
3.  Stretch - 3 times a day and before and after activities
4.  Inserts for his Shoes - we got some for cleats and tennis shoes
5.  Rest - The doctor said to give him at least a week of rest which means he can start back to practice next Tuesday morning.

The doctor said if Chip did all five of these consistently that he should be remarkably better next week. Chip said the inserts felt so good.  He probably has horrible feet like his mother!  Sorry Chip!

He is very sad about being out of practice this week and missing the game on Monday.  Hopefully, his foot will recover quickly!

Are You Ready For Some Football??

The first middle school football game of the season was kicked off last night.

This is the first tackle football game EVER for Chip!

I got there plenty early to watch lots of Chip's friends on the B Team!
It was a great game and the Cougars won 38 - 34!

Here are a couple of pictures from the B Team game.

See this #20 heading down the field.  His name is Ethan.  He scored five touchdowns. Doing just this...running down the field faster than anyone.  He was quite fun to watch.

This is the A-Team jumping up and down, celebrating the B Team success on the field.
Chip's buddies played great and I was so glad to see them cheering each other on!

Then here comes my favorite Offensive Lineman #65!  Here are some pictures of his debut!

Can you see the size of that MAN that is across from my sweet baby??
My goodness, what are they feeding these kids?

They worked hard, but came up short.  There were some unfortunate turnovers and the other team had a QB that was lights out throwing beautiful spiral passes for thirty yards or more.  No joke.  Kid had gobs of talent.  I am going to try to find out his name cause he is going to be in the NFL, I just know it. The Cougars have lots of work to do to get better, but I think they are up for the challenge.

After the game the kids rode back to school on the bus.  I picked Chip up at the back of the school and he was a hot sweaty mess.  He fell into the car and said "That was the best night of my life."  I just cracked up.  He really did have fun, even taking a thumping.

Can't wait till next week!  C - O - U - G - A - R - S!!!  Cougars!  Cougars! Cougars!

Mountain Men

Sunday was a lazy day.  So lazy that I watched an eight hour marathon of a show called Mountain Men.  I never, ever, ever, ever, ever just sit and watch random television, but I sure did a job of it on Sunday.  I started out bouncing around between a couple of real doozies....Swamp'd (Don't - just don't ever, ever watch it), Fat Guys In the Woods (that is a real show...and I watched an episode.  Save yourself) and Mountain Men.  Before I knew it, I was invested.  I was watching Kyle, Tom, Marty, Rich and a host of others surviving on mountain ranges from Alaska to North Carolina.

They were trapping wolverines, busting down beaver dams, tracking mountain lions, falling in frozen rivers, surviving against incredible odds, building a giant wood storage shed, scaring off wolf packs, hunting buffalo.  It was unreal.

There are really people who are living off the land.  Like in remote parts of the United States.  I can understand the remoteness of Alaska...maybe even Montana.  But if you live in New Mexico, is it really necessary to teach your son how to hunt buffalo?  They were crouching behind the brush to sneak up on the buffalo saying if we don't get this buffalo we won't have any meat to fill the freezer.  I am all screaming at the television....Dude, there is probably a Wal-Mart within an hour drive of your place.  They have meat there.  Go to Wal-Mart, they have everything.

It was quite fascinating and I can't wait till Season 4 starts.  I will totally be watching.  In fact, I may go back and watch Seasons 1 and 2 to see what I have missed.

So chalk this up to a day I will never get back.  Total slacker.  I loved it.  If you haven't watched Mountain Men on the History channel...tune in.  It is way better than Fat Guys in the Woods.  Guaranteed.

Rainy Saturdays are so rare.
So amazing.
So beautiful.
So welcome.
College football on a rainy Saturday is AMAZEBALLS!

And it is chilly!
Like really chilly!
Wearing a coat chilly!
Brewed two pots of coffee chilly!
Cooler weather is AMAZEBALLS!

I have had fish and brown rice five times in the last 48 hours.
That is a lot of fish and brown rice.
I have also had an abundance of egg whites.
Clean food fuels your body.
Taste is not so AMAZEBALLS - but I feel better already.

Chip has his first football game on Monday night.
He is A-Team Left Guard.
He really wanted to play defense.
He was a little disappointed with offensive line.
I am sure he will be AMAZEBALLS.

I am pretty sure that AMAZEBALLS is not a real word.
It should be.
It is a great word.

Trapped in an Elevator...AGAIN!

Lakeside - I went to Lakeside yesterday.  I didn't prepare a craft, instead we played Bingo with the residents and it was great.  Some highlights from the day...I got stuck in an elevator.  Not just any elevator, either. It was the oldest, smallest, hottest elevator in the history of the world. I checked.  I actually Googled "where is the oldest, smallest, hottest elevator in the world?" and Google said "Lakeside".  I knew it.  It was a long twenty seconds after I realized that damn moving coffin was not going anywhere.  When the doors finally opened I fell out into the lobby, gasping for fresh air, thrilled to be alive.  It actually wasn't quite that dramatic, but my heart was racing and I did hit the elevator alarm button about six times.  Remember when I got stuck in that elevator at work a while back?  No more elevators for me!

On the opposite end of the spectrum from my near death (for twenty seconds) experience I had a wonderful moment with my precious friend Lester.  I want him to be my grandpa.  Anyway, Lester has very recently gone back to school to be an addiction counselor. He is such a sweet soul and I am so proud of him for working towards this goal to be able to help others.  He told me that he turned in his first assignment (which needs a post all its own) and when he got it back the instructor had written "Wow!  Phenomenal!"  He was so proud and I just wanted to eat him up with a spoon.  It was a great day!

Bible Study - We started back with our little neighborhood bible study this past Tuesday evening.  There were fourteen of us in attendance!  That is a big crowd!  I am going to need to build some bleacher seating in the living room.  Super sweet ladies and I am already looking forward to next Tuesday!

Hair - I got my hair cut and colored this week.  THANK GOODNESS!

Health - Time to go hard core with my eating.  I cooked up some tilapia, salmon, brown rice and sweet potatoes tonight.  I have it portioned out in small tupperware containers ready to eat.  Now the hard part...choosing to eat the delicious, nutritious food I have prepared.

Looking for ten days of solid, clean eating.  Would you eat this for ten days in a row?

Rain - There is rain on the way AND cooler temperatures.  High in the 70's on Saturday!  WHAT?  It has been a very mild summer compared to summers in the past, but now that football has started it needs to start cooling off!  CANNOT WAIT!

That is all I have....heading to bed!  Tomorrow is Friday! Woo Hoo!

College Care Package

Harry has been at college for a little over three weeks.

Time for momma to send him a little love via a care package!

I picked up a few of his favorite snacks and a card for all of us to write him a little note.  Then I got a little crafty and decided to glue some funny pictures to the inside of the box.

Chip getting blasted in the face with some water.

Dad's hand?!?!

A blooper from his Graduation Party photo shoot.

Chip's mean face.

I hope he gets a laugh or two out of these!
