The Numbers

Let's talk about some numbers, shall we?

My little blog had its 20,000th visitor yesterday.  Thanks, Mom and Dad for checking on my blog several times a day and inflating my visitor numbers.  I really appreciate it.  And to my three other regular readers....I love ya!

Harry has driven to school 3 times and back home 2 times.  I am still not breathing when he leaves the house.  It is hard to hold your breath that long.

I am down 21.5 pounds today.  I need one more pound by Saturday to stay on track for loosing 2.5 a week!  Doing a shake day today and heading to the gym shortly to make sure I hit that goal!

My little Chip will be crossing into double digits in 26 days.  The big 1-0!  I am not handling this well at all.  Seems I have some emotional issues about my children meeting expected milestones in their lives.

I am working 1,000,000,000,000 hours a day.  At least it feels like I am.

Astro will be 8 years old on Saturday.

That is all the numbers I can think of for now....hope your Thursday is awesome!

Big Day

Harry passed his driver's license test on Friday....the lady who evaluated him for his test said that his parallel parking was brilliant.  Nothing like ten evenings and 567 practice attempts to make you brilliant at parallel parking!  Slam dunk!

So, this morning he grabbed his keys, listened to me lecture him for five minutes...don't be in a hurry...don't listen to the radio today...the sun will be in your eyes on the way to school so use the visors...park way out...do a pull through so you don't have to reverse after school...lock your truck...don't lose the keys...don't be in a big rush to get out of the parking lot after school, let it clear out a bit....I love you....be careful....buckle up....watch out for all the other idiots on the road....bye.

The door shut.  I stood at the window and watched him drive away.

I wept.

Wasn't it just yesterday that I was in the hospital parking lot, trying to strap that little seven pounds of joy into a car seat?  The car seat swallowed him whole.  I couldn't believe they just let us drive off with him.  That beautiful baby. We didn't know what in the world we were doing.  I remember pulling up to our house that day and it was all decorated with balloons and streamers.  We carried him into the house and gave him the tour of the house...ending in his sweet Winnie the Pooh nursery.

I wept that day too.

Then, opening your heart to let more love in than you even knew was possible....now, letting go enough to let  him be his own person.  A little independence.  A lot of responsibility.

I miss him already.

I Thought Parallel Parking Was Hard....

We woke up this morning and there was some tension floating in the air.  Harry was scheduled to take his driver's license test this morning at 9:00 a.m.  He was a little nervous.  Rightly so, getting your license is a big deal.  We left the house at 8:25, did a quick parallel parking warm up in front of the house.  Did great!  Good boost of confidence.

Arrive at the DMV about 8:40 and finally found a parking spot. The place was packed.  We walked in and there were no less than 100 people in the lobby and a long, long line formed for the information desk.  I asked a nice stranger that looked like she had been there a while what the process was.  She told us to get in line at the information desk and they would assign us a number.  Great.

There were probably eight or so people in front of us and after about 30 minutes we reached the information desk.  I made small talk with the lady behind the desk, just trying to elicit a smile.  It was not an easy task.

She looked over our paperwork and holds up this piece of paper with a gazillion lines on it and says "Did you fill out this log?"   I said "No, I filled out this log?"  Holding up the driving log we had kept with dates and hours driven.  She said "Oh, well you have to fill out this one too."  Me:  "Oh, okay."

So, with Harry's help, we lean up against a wall, because interestingly enough...in a room full of 100 people filling out paperwork, there is only one desk space that is about eight feet long.   It takes about 10 more minutes to fill out the log and I am just making up dates and times as I go.  I have to sign my name about 30 times.

Once that is done, we get in another line for the new drivers who are testing and wait again.

Time passes slowly in the DMV.

We finally make our way to the counter and the girl takes our paperwork.  She says "You only filled out the log for the driving instruction, you didn't do the other side for the dates before he got his permit."  Me:  "Oh, okay let me do that."   Inside my head, I was not so civil.

I jot those down so fast and furious, again just making up stuff because I can assure you I have no idea when I went over Car Safety or Making Cautious Decisions with Harry back in March of 2011.

Surely we are almost done and can get on with the actual driving test....

I thought parallel parking was hard....filling out the paperwork and waiting was brutal!

Then she drops the bomb "You were supposed to arrive an hour before your appointment time to take care of all of this paperwork and now you have missed the opportunity for your son to drive.  He will not be able to test today.  You can either make another online appointment.  The next one is about 20 days out, or you can come any day for a first come first serve place in line.  Those folks generally start lining up at 6:30 in the morning and when we open at 7:30 we can give you an appointment time for that day.  They fill up fast, so plan accordingly."

I could have screamed.

I won't even tell you about the look of devastation on Harry's face.  It was one for the record books.

So today was an epic fail.  So dang aggravated.  I didn't know you had to be there an hour early or I would have been.  I love early.  Early is my favorite.  I thought 20 minutes early was great!

I guess we will be camping out in the DMV parking lot tomorrow morning in hopes of securing an appointment.  Wish us luck, please!

Hope your day has gotten off to a little better start than mine!

Marked Another One Off The List

Several good things have happened already today!  First, the scale was so nice to me and it showed that I am down 20 pounds this morning!  It has been just seven short weeks and I am so happy with my progress.  Yea for 20!

Also, this morning I tried my first Spin Class!  It was hard and I think I liked it.  I will let you know for sure once I get some feeling back in my lady parts area!  YOWSER!  I don't think my legs hurt nearly as much as the other sensitive areas.  Unfortunately I did forget to bring my gel seat cushion so that certainly didn't help with my seat situation.  The instructor, Lori, was awesome!  There were only three of us in the class and she was able to give us some good instruction and guidance.  My good friend Connie was one of the three so I was really just worried about embarrassing myself in front of one super fit chick named Holly.  She was awesome at spinning and was totally ripped!  I only screamed out "Good Lord, how long IS this dang song!!!" one time, so that wasn't too bad!  I think Spin songs are like six and a half minutes so that was an adjustment.  I sweated profusely.  All good.

I came home and got to mark #30 off of my 50 Things To Do Before I Am 50 list!   That makes sixteen I have done.  Only thirty-four more to go!

Also on the good list today...Harry cleaned his own bathroom like a pro and Chip took to vacuuming like I was paying  him.  He was under all the furniture, sucking up lost ping pong balls and spider webs, crawling all over the floor.  It was awesome!

Much more to do today, but I just had to share while it was still fresh!  Hope your day has been awesome so far!

Ten Random Tidbits

I am super, duper busy...here is a little summary of the goings on around here till I can get caught up.

1.  Chip is doing safety patrol for the first time today.  He was thrilled.  He said "I am not going to say Have a Nice Day, I am going to say Have a FANTASTIC Day!"  He may be the best safety patrol FBE has ever seen!

2.  Only six more days till my Harry takes his driving test.  In the last few days he has run a red light and taken a turn so fast I thought his truck was on two wheels.  It is going to be fine.  It is going to be fine.  It is going to be fine. It is going to be fine.

3.  We haven't done our taxes yet.  Can you say procrastinators?

4.  Today celebrates twenty one years of married life.  Wow.  Does anyone have a medal for us?  Trophy?  Something?  Anything?   We dated for almost eight years.  Does that qualify us for something?

5.  Big, giant proposal is officially kicking my butt.  It is hard.  I seem to have a constant headache centered over my left eyebrow.  Does that mean something?   Is only my left eyeball stressed?

6.  I am down 18 pounds!  Woo Hoo!

7.  I am taking my first Spin Class tomorrow.  Oh boy!  I can't wait to come home and mark #30 off my 50 Things To Do Before I Am 50 List.  It has been a while since I have crossed through one.  Could Yoga be next?

8.  I am going to see a Carol Burnett show next week.  It is called Laughter and Reflection.  I bet I am going to do some of both.

9.  Last Tuesday was the three year anniversary of Louise passing away.  I miss her.  Terribly.

10.    Tonight is the big school fundraiser. I am volunteering in the food booth for two hours, but I am not in charge of anything.  I think I might actually enjoy that!

Hope your weekend is outstanding!

Weekend Update

After our late night adventure with the Spurs the rest of the weekend was action packed as well.

Got a workout in...focused on arms with a little bit of legs thrown in.  I may have a new little tricep muscle popping up that I am enjoying very much.  I can flex it for you if you want me to.  No?  Okay, I will just flex it for myself.  I followed that up with a massage that was INSANE.  Felt great.  Main focus was to try and get some good blood headed to my sore leg.  It worked too!  Leg feels so much better.

I was down 16 pounds at my 6 week weigh-in!  Woo Hoo!  I snuck briefly down to 17, but that was just a quick flash in the pan that I expect to reappear in the next day or so!  It's a marathon.  A long marathon. A life long marathon.  That is long.  Not getting bogged down by the stupid scale if I can help it.

After that healthy start, I headed to the ballpark to watch Chip's game.  He played the undefeated Twins and sadly, they are still very undefeated.  Those boys could hit and pitch.  It was a tough game.

On the upside, the weather was spectacular!  So spectacular that after the game I took Chip swimming at our awesome neighbor Karen's pool.  Chip swam with his buddy Pootie for hours.  They had a ball.  I read a book by the side of the pool.  Also, an excellent way to spend the afternoon.

Then it was a grocery store run...place was packed like it was Thanksgiving.  Made cupcakes for Easter and a Raspberry Cheese Ball.  Ordered up pizza for the small herd of kiddos at my house, cleaned up my kitchen for the zillionth time and then collapsed into bed.

Whew!

I have to download some Easter pictures from my camera, so I am going to wrap this one up and will post about Easter tomorrow!

The Clampetts See the Spurs

The Clampett's kicked off the holiday weekend with a trip to see the San Antonio Spurs.  We got some awesome seats on the floor.  I mean ON THE FLOOR!!   Front row, no one in front of us....feet were on wood.  It was very cool.  And very free!  And excellent.

The basketball was pretty good too!   Those boys are athletes.  No doubt about that.  There were some spectacular shots that made me me scream out with the rest of the fans.  Unbelievable.

Here are some pictures from the game.

The Spurs blew the Hornets away!

It was a great game and fun night...only marred by a traffic jam caused by a car accident on the way back home that delayed our arrival by an hour.  Ugh.  It was a late night for all.

More to come on Easter weekend festivities!
